Victoria bastion - the winner of time

The Narva Victoria bastion can be safely called forever victorious or the winner of time. In the course of its 300-year-long history, it stood the test of time during numerous wars, served the rulers of several different states in different times, and won and lost with dignity along with great rulers. In the beginning of the 21st century, after its complete restoration, it once again became the winner and turned into one of the main tourist attractions in the area, luring everyone who wants to hear exciting stories and feel the full power and might of the bastion.

The height of the front wall of the Victoria bastion is 16 metres. The thickness of the in wall (the so-called «body» of the bastion) is over three metres. High and powerful front walls are a typical feature of fortifications built according to E. Dahlbergh’s plans.

The Victoria bastion is the most powerful out of the seven bastions in Narva that were erected according to E. Dahlbergh’s plan at the end of the 17th century. In the body of the bastion there are two-floor casemates that are 2-3 metres high and 2 metres wide. The two-floor casemates enhanced the might of the bastion: the cannons on the bastion shot cannonballs at the enemy, and in addition to that, the enemy was under fire from the cannons and muskets in the casemates.
